“ | Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart authored his 1768 one-act singspiel Bastien und Bastienne at age 12, at the behest of Dr. Anton Mesmer; Thomas Reichert staged and directed a production of the work at the Salzburger Marionettentheater, which was filmed live and now appears in this home video release. Alfred Kleinheinz, Radu Cojocariu, Bernhard Berchtold, Evmorfia Metaxaki and Aleksandra Zamojska perform the story of the two titular lovers, driven apart by petty jealousies and romantic rivalries but reunited by the machinations of the soothsayer Colas. Salzburg's Jung Philharmonie, under the baton of maestro Elisabeth Fuchs, provides musical accompaniment. Nathan Southern, Rovi | ” |
